I spent three months of the Australian winter of 2013 (yes they do have one and it even snows) back in dear old Blighty and what a beautiful English summer it was too.
The country of my birth has changed quite a bit in the 23 years I have been away so during my summer soljourn I was determined to find the England of old before it disappears and attend as many typical English events as I could. (note to self) The stranger and weirder the better.
England. Two World Wars and one World Cup so the ditto goes. A proud nation of people, but now almost defeated by European Bureaucracy and madness.
So Imagine my excitement when I learned that on only the third day into my sabbatical there was to be a 1940’s weekend at the Great Central Railway in Loughborough.
Personally it was to be a real home coming event for I was born a good straight six over the other side of the tracks just nine years before Dr. Beeching sharpened his axe.
DJ Major Swing and his wife Kitty just one of many who like to spend their weekends dressing up in 1940’s period clothing? If I did this I would have trouble returning to the present but I can see the advantages already “Sorry Boss but I won’t be in today as I have used up all my petrol rations.”
